Are Smart Thermostats Worth the Investment

Smart thermostats are all the rage, but what exactly are they and are they worth the hype?

You probably have heard of smart thermostats by now, like the Google Nest. With a smart thermostat, you can remotely control your thermostat using your mobile phone or other device connected to the internet. It is a convenient way to adjust your temperature in your home and save you money on energy bills.

Most of these thermostats are also preprogrammed to try and learn what temperature you like over time. This means that they will learn usage patterns over time, which can easily save you almost close to a couple of hundred dollars each year.

Even though most of these thermostats cost a few hundred, you will be able to make your money make in just a few years from the savings you will see on your bill!

Smart thermostats are a very smart investment if you live in a warm place like Arizona where your air conditioner is running all summer long. With a smart thermostat, anytime you leave your home and forget to adjust your temperature, you can easily do it with your phone.

Luckily, if you are patient and do your research, you can find a smart thermostat for a really good deal, making it well worth it.

Before deciding on which smart thermostat is for you, talk with your HVAC technician to learn more.

HVAC Preventative Maintenance?

Of course, another way to save on energy bills and ensure that your unit is running efficiently is to receive routine preventative maintenance.

During your preventive maintenance check, your technician will check the filters and vents to make sure they are clear of debris, check coils and links for any clogs, check for leaks, and test thermostats.

HVAC Issues To Not Ignore

If you end up running into any of these issues before your scheduled preventative maintenance, make sure to call your technician right away for inspection.

– Strange noises – your HVAC unit makes odd noises when starting, running or stopping.

– Shut off – your HVAC unit ends up shutting off before it properly cools down to the set temperature

– Unusually high electric bill – your electric bill is unusually high, meaning your unit could be working overtime

– Leaks – you notice a puddle of water next to your HVAC unit. This could be an early sign of a water leak and should be inspected sooner rather than later
